6 held for plotting to kill HMK leaders
COIMBATORE: Six people were arrested on Wednesday morning for plotting to kill Hindu Makkal Katchi leaders.
The men were caught hatching a criminal conspiracy in front of the Sultan mosque in R S Puram early Wednesday morning. All residents of Coimbatore, they had been tracked by police after they were found roaming around near the Ukkadam Police Station in a suspicious manner. "We had received a tip off from some extremists arrested in Chennai that there was a plot to kill Hindu Munnani and Makkal Katchi leaders," said the Selvapuram police station inspector. "We also received a tip that a secret meeting was going to be held in Selvapuram," said another police officer. A special team was formed to collect information about the meeting, the officer added.
It was during this time that police found the men roaming suspiciously. "We realised that the meeting would be held in R S Puram instead," said the official. On interrogation, police found that the men were plotting the murders of Hindu Makkal Katchi leaders like Arjun Sampath and Mookambikai Mani, because such leaders were reportedly ?working against the interests of Muslims'. The accused were slowly growing in the ranks of extremists in the city. "While one of the accused Abdul Rehman was found to be a former SIMI (Students Islamic Movement of India) member, Saddam Hussain and three others were youth members of Popular Front of India (PFI)," said the police inspector.

6 held for conspiring to eliminate Hindu outfit leaders
Six persons were today arrested for allegedly conspiring to eliminate leaders of various Hindu outfits in and around the district, police said.
Based on intelligence inputs about the plot in Coimbatore and Tirupur districts, a special team was formed in the city here.
Upon receiving information about five youths moving around in a suspicious manner near the bus stand here, police rushed there and nabbed them.
Interrogation revealed that they were part of a group formed to eliminate leaders of Hindu outfits "working against the interests" of a particular community.
The group was formed after the killing of Rameshkumar, president of Thiruvalluvar district Hindu Munnani in June, they revealed, police said.
"They were waiting for the opportunity to finish Hindu Makkal Katchi president Arjun Sampath and Hindu Munnani leader Mookambikai Mani. There are some more names on their list", police said.
Meanwhile, police arrested another person in Selvapuram who was also alleged to be part of a conspiracy to kill some Hindu leaders.
Police said that as the accused were being produced in the court of the judicial magistrate, one of them allegedly kicked a videographer of a news channel when he approached him for a closer shot. The accused was also alleged to have abused another person from a TV channel, police said.
All six accused have been remanded in judicial custody.
